DESCRIPTION
The workshop is structured as a two-day intense visual and conceptual analysis of lighting applied to portraits, aimed at improving the skills necessary to quickly create a pose set, create technically correct and expressively effective portraits, helping you to identify and build a personal aesthetics through a critical and aesthetic analysis of the image. The first part of the workshop is developed through practical shooting exercises, with the aim of examining the different lighting methods in depth and offering participants the opportunity to learn how to use various light sources (natural light/flash/continuous light) both separately and simultaneously. The second is focused on the criticism and aesthetics of the image, linked above all to the portrait, through the vision and reading of the participants’ portfolios.

Recommended equipment: camera, tripod, computer, memory card reader, a camera body with a single lens, preferably a normal one.

Instructor Profiles

Paolo Verzone was born in Turin in 1967 and lives between Italy and Spain.
He became interested in photography at a very young age. In collaboration with Alessandro Albert, in 1991 he created a work of portraits of the inhabitants of Moscow, collected in the volume Volti di Passaggio, published by Peliti Associati.
With the images of Muscovites he won the Kodak European Panorama award in 1992. Paolo Verzone collaborates as a portraitist and reporter with the main Italian and international magazines including: National Geographic, Time, Newsweek, Le Monde, The Independent, Sunday Times, Liberation, Vanity Fair, D la Repubblica delle Donne, Geo, Io Donna, GQ, Amica, Rolling Stone, Marie Claire, Courier International, Das Magazin. In 2014 he completed a project on the Military Academies of Europe collected in the volume: Cadets, Editions de la Martinière.
In recent years he has received various awards including: World Press Photo 2001, 2009 and 2015, Canon Young Photographers, finalist at the Leica Oskar Barnack Award, American Photography 2009-10, Sony Photography award 2011.
His images are present in the collections of the Victoria Albert Museum in London, the Bibliothéque Nationale in Paris and the National Institute for Graphics in Rome. Paolo Verzone is a member of Agence Vu’ and has been a Canon Ambassador since 2017.

Azzurra Immediato, art historian and critic, was born in Benevento and lives in Bologna where she studied Art at DAMS and later History of Medieval and Modern Art at Alma Mater Studiorum. She approaches contemporary art after years of working in HR, collaborating with young online magazines, writing about art, design, theater and cinema.
She has followed and follows several emerging and non-emerging artists, for several years she has cooperated with some galleries as a critic, in particular in the work of conceiving, writing and editing catalogs and art books, curating for monographic and collective exhibitions; she also works on installations and artistic projects of other kinds. Her passion for photography allows her to tend towards the search for new languages and in recent years, in addition to her own affection, she has curated and directed some exhibitions in collaboration with Italian and foreign photographers, in national museums or festivals, together with charity and art therapy projects sponsored by universities. She assigns culture a central role in human existence and curiosity for the world a value that should never be forgotten.

Application

Registration form, filled as required, has to be sent by fax or e-mail, along with the following documents:

Copy of the ID card;
Copy of the payment receipt for half of the full price;
Copy of the full payment receipt within a week before workshops start.
Inscription to workshops is valid only after we received, by fax or e-mail, a copy of the payment receipt for 50% of the full price. Inscriptions are accepted while places last on a first come first served basis.

The total amount has to be paid within a week before workshop start. In case you missed the last payment without previous cancellation notice, you will not get any refund.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation is possible until 15 days before the start of workshop. Cancellations within this time will get a total refund on exclusion of registration fee, in the amount of € 5,00.

It is very unusual for us to cancel a workshop, although it might happen that attendees are not enough or that the reader is unable to come.
In caso di cancellazione, Photolux farà il possibile per venire incontro agli iscritti offrendo la possibilità di partecipare ad un differente workshop.
In case of cancellation, Photolux will do its best to meet subscribers requirements offering the chance to take part to another workshop. If not able to find a satisfying solution, Photolux will provide a refund. Photolux reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to lack of participants until 7 days before workshop starting date.
